Triathlon Training Camp – Lyttos Beach, Crete | March 25–28, 2027

Four Days. Three Sports. One Incredible Destination.

This coming March, I am delighted to invite you to join me for an intensive Triathlon Training Camp at the unique Lyttos Beach Resort & Sports Center in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece. This year, I will personally lead and coach the entire camp. In future editions, I hope to have Dave join us as well, adding his unique experience and expertise to the training experience.

Thursday, March 25 – Sunday, March 28, 2027

This four-day camp is designed for athletes who want to take their training to the next level while enjoying one of Greece’s premier sports resorts.

A CAMP BUILT AROUND IMPROVEMENT

This will not simply be four days of hard training.

The main objective of the camp is to improve your swimming, cycling, and running technique, develop your ability to execute structured training sessions, and help you understand how to train more effectively.

With more than three decades of experience in triathlon coaching and training-camp organization, I will personally lead and supervise the sessions, with an emphasis on quality, technique, individual feedback and progressive training.

Whether you are preparing for your next triathlon or simply want to become a better and more efficient athlete, this camp will give you the opportunity to train, learn and improve in an exceptional environment.

????‍♂️ SWIMMING

We will complete swimming sessions of approximately 4,000 metres, using the resort’s modern 50-metre Olympic-standard swimming pool.

The emphasis will be on technique, efficiency, body position, stroke mechanics and swimming economy.

During the camp, our swimming programme will focus extensively on technique, efficiency, strength and open-water application.

We will cover:

  • Dry-Land Training & Swimming-Specific Warm-Up
Preparation exercises designed to activate the key muscle groups and movement patterns required for efficient swimming.
  • Freestyle Drills
We will demonstrate and practice a wide variety of freestyle drills, each designed to improve specific technical elements of the stroke.
  • Mobility & Flexibility for Swimming
Swimming-specific mobility and stretching exercises to improve range of motion and support efficient movement through the water.
  • Swimming-Specific Strength Training
Exercises designed to develop the strength and stability required for a powerful and efficient freestyle stroke.
  • Freestyle Technique Models
We will demonstrate and explain different freestyle techniques and stroke models, including:

    • Front-Quadrant Freestyle
    • Kayak Freestyle
    • Vaulting Freestyle
  • Hips-Driven & Opposite-Hand Freestyle
We will teach athletes how to use both a classic hips-driven freestyle and an opposite-hand freestyle, with particular emphasis on adapting technique to choppy open-water conditions.
  • Head Position & Body Alignment
We will focus on maintaining an efficient head position and optimal body alignment to reduce drag and improve swimming economy.
  • Early Vertical Forearm (EVF)
We will work on developing an effective EVF position and improving the ability to establish an effective catch and apply pressure to the water.
  • Kicking Technique
We will address kick mechanics, ankle position, kick amplitude, timing, and the relationship between the kick and the overall freestyle stroke.

The overall objective is to help each athlete understand why a technique works, feel the correct movement in the water, and ultimately swim faster and more efficiently with less wasted energy

The objective is not simply to swim more—it is to swim better.

????‍♂️ CYCLING

The camp will include structured indoor cycling sessions, with a strong emphasis on learning how to execute interval training correctly and effectively.

You do not need to bring your own bike.

The indoor sessions will allow us to focus on power, cadence, pacing and the execution of specific intervals without being influenced by traffic, weather or terrain.

When conditions and logistics allow, we will also organize an outdoor cycling session, with bikes available for rental through the hotel’s bike facilities.

During the camp, our cycling programme will focus on improving pedalling efficiency, bike position, strength and the ability to execute structured indoor training sessions.

image.png

We will cover:

  • Bike-Fitting Principles
Understanding the key principles of an effective bike position and how adjustments can improve comfort, aerodynamics, power production and injury prevention.
  • Pedalling Technique
Developing a smooth and efficient pedal stroke, with emphasis on cadence, coordination and effective power application throughout the pedal cycle.
  • Indoor Interval Training
Exploring different interval-training options for indoor cycling, including how to structure intervals according to different training objectives, durations and intensities.
  • Cycling-Specific Strength Training
Exercises designed to develop the strength and stability required for efficient cycling and improved power production.
  • Cycling-Specific Mobility Exercises
Mobility work targeting the hips, lower back, ankles and other areas important for maintaining an effective and sustainable cycling position.
  • Stretching for Cyclists
Specific stretching exercises to improve flexibility, support recovery and help athletes maintain a comfortable and efficient position on the bike.

The overall objective is to help athletes ride more efficiently, produce power more effectively and train smarter—both indoors and outdoors.

????‍♂️ RUNNING

Running sessions will combine track work, treadmill running and brick training.

The track provides an excellent environment for controlled quality sessions, while the treadmill will allow us to incorporate specific brick work in a safe and controlled setting.

During the camp, our running programme will focus on developing better running technique, greater efficiency and stronger execution, both on fresh legs and after cycling.

We will focus on:

  • Running Technique – Developing an efficient and sustainable running form.
  • Running Economy – Learning how to move efficiently while minimizing unnecessary energy expenditure.
  • Pace Control – Improving the ability to control and maintain the correct pace according to the training objective.
  • Interval Execution – Learning how to execute different interval formats with the appropriate intensity, recovery and pacing.
  • Running Dynamics – Analyzing key metrics such as Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscillation, Cadence and Stride Length to better understand running mechanics and efficiency.
  • Running Drills – Using specific drills to improve coordination, posture, foot placement and overall running mechanics.
  • Dynamic Stretching & Mobility – Incorporating dynamic exercises to prepare the body for running and improve movement quality.
  • Running Off the Bike – Developing the ability to transition efficiently from cycling to running, with emphasis on technique, cadence, posture and pace control.
