Press Release from the official web-site of Commerzbank Triathlon Team. Timo Bracht dominated Ironman Western Australia today and won his seventh Ironman title, crossing the finish line after 8:12:39 hours. In his last race for the Commerzbank Triathlon Team, the German crowned a great season and an outstanding period with the team. His teammate Maik Twelsiek became tenth. The two Australians Clayton Fettell and Jason Shortis finished second and third.
Bracht said: „Australia is a great triathlon nation and it’s very special to win here. I will remember this day for a lifetime because the duels with Australians are legendary and winning them is even more legendary. Furthermore it was my last race in Comerzbank colours what gave me even more motivation. This great partnership deserved a great final today.”
The Australian Clayton Fettell was dominating the race until km 32 on the marathon. It was that point of the race where Timo Bracht passed him and it was impossible to catch the German again. In the end Bracht had been running the fastest marathon of the day, finished six and a half minutes in front of Fettell and finally won his seventh Ironman title.
With 6.000 points in the Kona Pro Ranking Timo Bracht is already qualified for Hawaii. Maik Twelsiek has now 1.200 points after his tenth place in Busselton. Team Manager Jan Wendt said: “We’re looking back on great years with the Commerzbank Triathlon Team. It’s overwhelming to have finished this period with a victory today.”
