The emblematic building Veles e Vents in Valencia has been witness of the first edition of the Valencia LD – Spain’s Middle Distance Triathlon Championship. The competition, which will take place this Sunday, March 4th, at 8:30am, will be the beginning of the European season in Long Distance of “one of the disciplines experimenting the most increase of participants internationally”. Said by Enrique Caballero, responsible of the Valencian Company Trisense Sport, organiser of this event. He also said “we are very satisfied of having 1.100 participants, which is a very considerable figure in this distance”. Appart from this, he highlighted “the great development, nationally and internationally” of this competition, which has over 65% of participants from outside the Valencian region.
Spain’s Championship
Felipe Gutiérrez, sport director of the Triathlon Spanish Federation, showed his satisfaction for having taken the decision to consider this Valencia LD competition as Spain’s Championship. In this way he focused on the elite’s participation but also “the importance for the Aging Groups, which have in Valencia the chance to get points for the national ranking and being able to be in the Vitoria World Championship 2012”.
Secretary General Arturo Navarro, from the Comunidad Valenciana Triathlon Federation, recognised that with this kind of tournament “the marks are even higher” and he also take the opportunity to call the attention to the success of “integrate in the world of triathlon those different institutions, regions, technicians, sportsmen, …”.Arturo Navarro said about the organisation management of being “a mover and shaker company which works with imaginative projects with a huge background that allow us having competitions like Valencia LD”.
An opportunity made city
Valencia LD introduces a route of 1,9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21 km of running going through the Juan Carlos I Royal Marina, the F1 urban circuit, the Albufera Natural Park and the Maritime Parade, among other scenarios. For the cycling course, it’s been necessary the collaboration of 11 boroughs for the design of a totally flat route in a single round, set to get spectacular timings.
The support of these boroughs, as well as that by the institutions, sponsors and collaborators, has been essential for the Valencia LD to take place.
Cristóbal Grau, Sports Counsellor, said from the city council “this is one of the challenges we aimed to reach in the elaboration of the strategic plan”.
“We noticed that we had an opportunity as a city: be capable to develop products through local companies with the collaboration of federations and add a value to the pragmatic tourism. In this sense, we began two experiences, Valencia Marathon and Valencia triathlon in September. Nevertheless, Trisense is a good entrepreneur company and far from accepting figures, they wanted to get this new experience in which I believe that goals are being accomplished and its future is seen with great success”, explained Cristóbal Grau.
Trisense Sport took advantage of this official presentation of the Valencia LD to invite the valencian public to enjoy of a day of triathlon that will have its central office in the Quay Nº2 (Tinglado Nº2) in the Valencia Port. Finally they thanked the collaboration of all people, companies and institutions that made possible Valencia LD to be a reality.
