Open Water Swimming State Subchampion Adrián González wins the Palamós Swim Racewhich hosted this year 400 participants
In the female category Núria Ciuró and the Olympic Clàudia Dasca have reached the finish arch together at La Fosca beach.
Mataró’s Swim Club swimmer, Adrián González, is the top finisher in the 4km race that took place today in Palamós. The race, which counted on 218 participants, kickstarted the first open water championship on the Costa Brava, Zoot Swim Series. González completed the race only in 50 minutes, getting 21 seconds ahead of Jordi Bosch (Swim Club Sant Andreu) and the Olympic Kiko Hervás (Zoot Swim Team) who fought over the second position to the last stroke.
In the female category the top results go to Nuria Ciuró and Claudia Dasca (Swim Club Sant Andreu and Swim Club Sabadell) who swum in parallel throughout the whole race and reached the finish line together, thus, sharing the first position after 56 minutes of competiting. Nearly 3 minutes later Ainhoa Benavente from Swim Club Cervera made it to the second position.
Despite the cold water temperature of about 15 degrees, 20 participants competed in the 4km race in the skin category. The leading position in this category belongs to Miquel Suñer, closely followed by Quim Bofill and Oriol Gil.
The Palamós Swim Race organized by Swim The Costa Brava has also hosted a popular 1.5km race. Starting at El Castell Beach and finishing at La Fosca Beach, this recreational race drew the attention of hundreds of passersby and onlookers who gathered at the beach to follow the arrival of the swimmers to the finish line live. Noteworthy mentioning that the popular swim was a rite of passage for many of 170 participants who competed today for the first time.
In September the championship will relocate to the waters of Cala Montgó (Torroella de Montgrí ‐L’Escala), expecting to bring together more than 600 swimmers from all over the world. This stage is more challenging than the one in Palamós, with a broader range of long and short competing distances (6km, 12km, 3km, 1.5K, relays and kid´s race).
Zoot Swim Series 2014 will come to its end in November with the last stage taking place in one of the localities on the Costa Brava to be announced shortly. Zoot Swim Series counts on the support of the Tourist Board Pirineu Girona and is sponsored by Zoot, Bunch and Multipower.
