We are really excited to have an exclusive interview from Kate Allen at the next issue of the Triathlon World digital magazine that it will be available on the Internet at the end of August (we apologise for the delay, it as first scheduled to be “published” at the middle of August). The more you have the possibility to know this great champion the more you respect Kate as a person and as an athlete. Kate had won the race many times before in her mind…Just check her answer at our following question concerning the control of the race.
Triathlon World : It seems that you had a complete control of the race (Athens 2004 OG). Is there was someone to inform you about the gap between the groups? What would you do in case that the leading group of the swimmers was increasing a lot the gap? What was the maximum gap that you could allow you to go after the gold medal?
Kate Allen : I had no control what was happening. I just got information from my husband on the bike course that we were loosing time each round. When I rode past him in the last round going up the hill he told me to sit up, that the race was over, we were over 2 and 1/2 minutes down and that I should just save my legs to at least have a good run. I thought to myself, “maybe the race is over for you, but not for me.
