Danish London 2012 Olympic Triathlete Helle Frederiksen has chosen a new direction for the 2013 triathlon season. Helle Frederiksen, a professional triathlete who has competed in 55 ITU competitions since 2006, recently separated herself from the Danish Triathlon funding program in order to seek new international opportunities.
Helle Frederiksen, 27th in the London Olympic Games and currently based in Clermont, Florida quoted “Triathlon is booming and opportunities are out there. I need a set up that allows me to be a part of this fantastic development. I have chosen to follow my own path instead of a path chosen by DTriF (Danish Triathlon Federation). I am looking to further my international success all be it as an independent athlete for 2013.”
2013 will see Frederiksen make a bid to take the overall Rev3 series title. Already confirmed for Rev3 events Knoxville,Wisconsin, Maine and Branson, Frederiksen spoke of her decision to commit to Rev3 despite interest from other international series “Rev3 director Charlie Patten has shown great support to my career over the past years. This support along with the knowledge and awareness of what a Rev3 event does for all competitors involved was an instant selling point. These are events organised to the highest standard with mass appeal, I am excited to be a part of that for 2013.”
Frederiksen will base herself out of Clermont, Florida until early May. Coached by Canadian Joel Filliol, Helle Frederiksen, despite bringing a wealth of experience to the Rev3 series admits familiarizing herself to the non-draft set up is going to take some time “I am not kidding myself here; I have some homework to do and my body needs time to adapt to a more aero TT position. I am in the series to win and every race I will be at I will be there to win, however I definitely think my better performances will come later in the year. ”
Additional questions:
How are you preparing for the longer distances? My approach to swimming and running is similar to my time in ITU I definitely have to use these disciplines to my benefit; however we are putting a little more focus on the strength side of running by incorporating added hill work and tempo efforts. The bike is going to take some time but even now 3 – 4 hour rides alone excite me.
The field for the Rev3 series is deeper than ever before, who will you be watching the closest as a potential to compete for the series victory? Well the series has some great competitors with many potential winners, I guess all eyes will be on Angela Neath but I have familiarized myself with the strengths and weaknesses of other competitors like Kelly Williamson, Heather Jackson.
